Here’s a growing list of useful travel apps I have on my phone and iPad:
Some of these will include my own personal discount codes associated with my own travel account that you’re able to use for free. Adventures with Crystal is not officially partnered with any of these programs or companies. I compiled this based on my personal travel experiences.
- Hotels.Com: Discount hotel booking, in advance
Promo discount code » » $50 off your first booking - Hotels Tonight: Discount hotel booking and day-of hotel deals
Promo discount code » » » $25 off your first trip. - Air BnB: lodging (primarily homestays) or tourism experiences
Promo discount code » » » $40 credit on your trip - VIA: Ride-share car service in major cities, best ride bargain
Promo discount code » » » crystal3k7 for $15 ride credit - Lyft: Ride-share care service, highly selective with driver staff
Promo discount code » » » $5 ride credit - Waze: GPS navigation software app.
Why it’s different: it provides turn-by-turn navigation information and user-submitted travel times and route details to get you the quickest, safest routes. - Today Tix: Discount Broadway and Off-Broadway tickets; no fee.
I used the app to see To Kill a Mockingbird, other comedy shows, musicals, and more. Cities: New York City, London, Los Angeles, Toronto, Boston, Connecticut, Philadelphia, Houston, Seattle, Dallas and more. - Relax Melodies: Need background noise to sleep while you’re traveling?
This app allows you to customize 52 free sounds and melodies (rain, birds, piano, wind, etc.) to create background noise. - Amazon Photos: Automatic back-up of photos on your phone and desktop.
Photos are accessible from app, anywhere. Unlimited photo storage is free with Amazon Prime and basic storage for videos is included. - Yelp: Access reviews on local businesses: restaurants, activities, hair stylists and more.
The app now allows you to message merchants, place orders for pick-up and delivery, make reservations, and apply for cash back opportunity points. - Spotify: Free music app for all of your travels. The free version allows you to create playlists and shuffle. Premium services are $9.99/month, and allows you to skip through songs, download playlists for offline listening, and does not have commercials.
- Audible: Download and purchase audio-books.
Audible sells digital audiobooks, radio and TV programs, and audio versions of magazines and newspapers; it’s owned by Amazon. Once you download any audiobooks or audible programs, you can listen off-line. - Overcast: Listen to Podcasts for free.
You can follow a series, browse different topics, and prioritize your listening. Smart Speed also allows you to listen to the podcast at quicker speeds with clarity.
Know any more apps you like? Post a comment and I’ll add it to the list for other (solo) travelers.
