I had a minor freak-out yesterday.
I thought I transferred all my Bermuda photos onto my laptop. Not so.
Some of the files were corrupt and didn’t transfer correctly, anywhere. I couldn’t open those photos on my laptop or on my phone; they simply disappeared. That’s a traveler’s nightmare.
I thought I lost nearly 100 photos, and the visual memories the come with it.
Enter: Amazon Prime photos
(post not sponsored)
I realized I downloaded the Amazon Prime photos app on my laptop AND my cell phone a little before the trip.
You can pick a setting where every time you have a wireless connection, the app automatically saves every photo onto its database. Think iCloud, but more powerful. And with more storage.
Amazon Photos provides unlimited full-resolution photo storage + 5 GB for video storage, for prime members. The app is free, too.
By grace, everything was still saved onto the program. And I didn’t lose any photos after all.
Unique features:
Amazon Prime saves EVERYTHING, so there are some pretty funny blurry photos and duplicates. I eventually deleted some of the photos saved onto the app, but with unlimited storage, I don’t have to worry. And I didn’t necessarily have to sift through the photos.
Date sorting:
The photos are saved by date, and you can scroll through everything at any time. My photos go back to 2012, and since the app is on my phone, I can pull up any photo at will. A blast from the past.
Instant Access
The Amazon Prime Photos app helps me write blog entries more easily because every photo is on my phone and easy to save.
But this feature also helps in an important way. If I’m telling a story, I can pull up and share any photos with friends immediately — whether it’s in person, e-mail, text message, whatever. I can also create links to albums that’s only sharable to certain people, the “friends & family” feature.
Sorting by People and Location
This is a nice short-cut if you don’t want to scroll through years of photos. The app sorts and categorizes photos by both location and an algorithm where they’re matching up photos by the person. This saves me a lot of time if I want to send someone their photos or if I simply want to pull it up.
I still recommending transferring photos you take into a safe folder — even if it’s just a removable storage.
But, the app did its job and gave me some peace of mind.
