Hotels Tonight: Close-out Deals

Okay, so maybe meeting new hosts in their home through Air BnB isn’t your cup of tea. So while that app may not be your match, Hotels Tonight is perfect for the impulsive and the adventurous.

I’ve used Hotels Tonight often to book hotels in Vancouver, Canada and also a few times in New York City.

Here’s the concept of the Hotels Tonight travel phone app:

There are many hotel rooms that don’t book before the check-in date. So, those empty rooms take up space and, without guests, it’s not generating any profit for the hotel.

Cue: Hotels Tonight.

It’s an app where every day beginning at 12:00 p.m., you can monitor which hotels are trying to fill up last-minute rooms, AND it comes at a DISCOUNT!

Savings for you to help hotels book rooms.

I’ve found some GREAT last-minute deals on Hotels Tonight, marked down with incredible savings from the usual going-rate. That’s just for waiting until noon and booking cheaper through good timing.

It’s a win-win for you and for hotels.

The only issue: while you can use the app to book in advance, however days, weeks or months you need before that noon discount, the best rates will always come beginning at 12 p.m. when the hotel is trying to get rid of rooms.

So, it can be a gamble waiting — but I’ve never struck out.

If my Amtrak doesn’t arrive until New York City until 2 p.m., I begin looking at the Hotels Tonight listings at noon, and choose a hotel by 1:30 p.m. If I check the app even later on in the day, there might be a few more bonus discounts thrown in because as it gets later, more hotels are trying and fill up those empty rooms.

The main issue is, if you’re trying to save the most money, for example on a 3-day trip to a city, you may be playing the Hotel Tonight game every day at 12:00 p.m.

Or, you can also book a set of days in a row, but you may only get the best deal for one of those days.

In any case, I’ve scored some excellent deals playing roulette, and on my adventurous days, it’s worth a shot. I’ve discovered some great hotel through the close-out deals that maybe I wouldn’t have been able to afford or wouldn’t have initially thought to try.

It is an app that allows you to explore different hotels for those adventurous and ready to save money.

The app conveniently lets you look at reviews for the hotel, gives you the average going rate, and lets you set filters. They’ll also give you a quick summary: Basic, Solid, Hip etc.
