So this isn’t exactly a food spot in New England, but it is a local spotlight on a talented and passionate make-up artist, Sascha Martin.
I met her by chance at the Warwick, Rhode Island mall while I was in need of some help before a work and fun photo shoot. And she’s continued to help me for my birthday glamourous make-over.
Despite being a TV news reporter, I’m not big on, or very good at, applying make-up. I’ve never really got into the habit of learning because I want to feel authentic on air and look like myself.
But on this special day, my week full of birthday celebrations, my amateur self needed some help, and Sascha came to save the day.
Sascha is a passionate pro at all this beauty and helping women feel confident. She loves this career because she says she gets to meet people from all different places and professions, and she has fun creating a good, customized look for every person’s preferences.
She’s also wonderful to chat with — I forget sometimes I should be holding still because I gab and vent away some days when she fixes me up. She’s always fun to talk with.
What I appreciated about Sascha is she took time understanding exactly what I wanted — even though I couldn’t exactly come up with the right words.
I stumbled through, saying something like professional but fun, natural but still striking, noticeable but not dramatic. But most of all, I still wanted to look like me!
It’s quite the demanding wish list. Except she was on it!
Her style is different than some make-up artists, who go overboard.
She describes it as a “soft glam” — the looks are often natural and glowing, which is great for photographs. But she also styles to fit the person’s needs and occasions.
There are some people who over-do make-up and my face feels heavy and I don’t look like myself.
But Sascha did the trick, even explaining to me what types of products she was using and why.
I admired her patience, her good eye for detail, and also her talent and passion for making anyone feel radiant and beautiful. She’s very warm and friendly, and those are the best people to work with!
So while this isn’t a post about food, it is about me trying something out of my comfort zone, and being very thankful a local make-up artist made me feel glamorous, but also myself on special occasions, like my birthday week.
If you need something done, check out Sascha at the MAC make-up counter in Warwick, and tell her I sent you!
The MAC make-up application isn’t free, but they do ask you to buy some of the products there, and a total of $60.
She uses such great products on me; it really isn’t hard to pick out items to buy so I can touch-up my make-up on my own later.
Here are some more photos of how it all turned out — I didn’t have to use filters either, only nice camera flash lighting.
